New software to track tigers

With the technology, data can be collected easily. At present the forest department perssonel note down the details in their dairy during the patrolling. The materials collected are sent to National Tiger Conservation Authority once in a month.

However, after the adoption of technology, all the RFO offices will be given computers. The personnel have to send the details to the Authority daily, said sources in the forest department.

The sources said that there has been rise in the tiger population in Bhadra Reserve Forest and Kudremukh National Park limits. The two division may have around 50 tigers. In fact, the forest officials have documented on seeing four cubs recently at Thanigebailu.

The forest department is all set to install solar fence to check the wild elephant menace. At present, solar fence has been installed for three kilometre in Lakkavalli zone, six kilometre in Thanigebailu zone and three kilometre in Muthodi zone. As many as 92 cases on damage of crops due to wild animals have been reported in the district. A sum of Rs 5.379 lakh compensation has been paid during the year.
