Facebook Now in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Punjabi

http://blog.taragana.com/
Good news for Indians…Facebook has recently launched itself in 5 Indian regional languages.
With more than 1100 million people, a large number of whom are young, India can be a big market for Facebook and similar other social networking sites.

Just a few weeks ago Gmail also introduced Indian languages for composing email on this popular email service provider.
After Orkut, Facebook is the second most widely liked networking site in India.
Users can change language settings through the ‘settings’ tab or through the language option on their Facebook homepage.
Facebook users can only browse through the site in the five regional languages and not message each other or update their status yet. Rival Google’s social networking site Orkut has Indian language transliteration in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
Introduction of regional languages was incorporated by Google in its networking site Orkut, however when the facility was tried by users there were some technical drawbacks which did not allow transliteration through Google’s own browser Chrome. Online war to defeat and rise is always on by websites in competition, and the new change seems to be Facebook’s trial to fit in visitor’s convenient requirement.

Extract zip, ISO, DAA files with IZArc[freeware]

Archiving and extracting files can be done in Windows XP and upwards with the help of built-in tools. However, as with many other things, built-in utilities tend to have very little tweakable options and power features. For anyone that desires better features, the built-in archival utility is not the right option.

IZArc is a freeware archival application for Windows. It has all the normal features expected from an archival application: zip and unzip archives, create self-extracting archives, create normal archives from self-extracting archives, encrypt/decrypt archives.

However, it also has other ‘extra’ features, like extracting individual files from a ISO file (CD image), repair archives, create multi-part archives and merge multi-part archives into one. What this means is that IZArc is a very powerful archival program, with many features not found on similar programs (even paid ones).

In fact, it was such extra features that helped me extract DAA file without using the expensive PowerISO [see tutorial to extract DAA files]

As you can see from the screenshot below, the window is simple and uncomplicated. Once you install IZArc, you can configure it to associate with archive files. Then, double-clicking archives will bring up IZArc with options to extract files. You can also choose the location easily.

Tip: Instead of double-clicking files, right-click archive file, hover over ‘IZArc’, and choose Extract to .<filename>, where <filename> is the actual name of the file. When you do this, the files will be extracted to a new folder within the same folder that the archive file is located in.

IBM's Worth $185 But New Software & Consulting Service Could Add upside

IBM ( IBM ) sells middleware software and technology services such as outsourcing and integration to large and medium sized businesses worldwide, and competes with firms like Oracle ( ORCL ) and Red Hat. IBM is also among the global leaders in business systems and competes with hardware vendors like HP ( HPQ ) and Dell ( DELL ) in the server market as well as firms like EMC ( EMC ) and NetApp (NTAP) in the storage market.
In a recent development IBM announced the launch of a new software and consulting service targeted at helping companies swiftly adapt to rising customer demands in today's digitally transformed marketplace. The firm chooses to call this new emerging category "Smarter Commerce" keeping in line with its Smarter Planet initiative. We have earlier discussed IBM's focus on its Smarter Planet initiative and how the firm stands to benefit from it. (See IBM's Smarter Planet Initiatives Lay Groundwork for Growth )
We currently have a $185 Trefis price estimate for IBM's stock , about 15% above the market price. Software and services are the most valuable business divisions for IBM contributing nearly 46% and 42% respectively of the firm's equity value.

Smarter Commerce Opportunity
According to a recent IBM press release, "Today, 70% of a customer's first interaction with a product or services takes place online, 64% make a first purchase because of a digital experience and of the two billion people connected to the Internet, more than 600 million are on Facebook. This is compounded by an explosion of mobile purchases, which is tripling annually to $119 billion this year alone."
The era of mobile and social networks has not only introduced the world to new ways of buying and selling but has also empowered the consumers and raised their expectation of the entire customer experience and is continuing to do so. While earlier only retailers were impacted by the rising power and demands of consumers, now companies in a wide array of industries such as manufacturing, telecommunications, financial services and others feel the need to adapt to these changes. This has presented organizations unseen challenges in securing customer loyalty. IBM's new software and service offering is aimed at addressing this very need of enterprise commerce activities.
IBM says, "Smarter Commerce is a smarter way for companies to buy, sell and market their products by integrating operations and enhancing interactions through community, collaboration, process and analytics - all within an industry context." ( (IBM Smarter Commerce , IBM))
We believe this new development will help extend IBM's leadership in business analytics and optimization sphere and estimate an upside to IBM's stock.

Potential Upside to IBM
IBM estimates the "Smarter Commerce" market opportunity at $70 billion driven by clients' need to meet the increasing demand for better customer experience.  ((IBM Launches Software and Consulting Services to Help Businesses Adapt to Rising Customer Demands, IBM)) We believe IBM is the pioneer and industry leader in business analytics and optimization is well placed to capture a major share of this emerging market which will boost both its software and services revenues.
The new software offered by IBM draws on its market-leading WebSphere Commerce platform and will boost IBM's middleware license revenues as well as consulting services revenues. While we currently estimate IBM's middleware license revenues to grow from $5.5 billion in 2010 to $10.3 billion through our forecast period, a higher growth to $12 billion driven by IBM's new offerings will result in an upside of 5%-6% to our $185 Trefis price estimate for IBM's stock.

Complete Restoration Example

New YouTube software could restore your shakily and crappily shot vids
Don't have a steady hand for shooting video? No problem. YouTube's latest acquisition of Green Parrot Pictures' software might one day easily stabilize and restore your poorly shot footage.
The possibilities of incorporating Green Parrot Pictures' software into YouTube could mean huge jumps in quality for future user-generated videos. Green Parrot's tech "helps make videos look better while at the same time using less bandwidth and improving playback speed."
Take a look at this old flickery video. The original sample is super shaky, but after the restoration, it's noticeably more stable.
Basically, the gist is: film first, fix later. For most of the home videos we post to YouTube, this isn't such a bad idea. While there aren't any concrete plans on how Green Parrot's compression and restoration software will be used by YouTube, it's theoretically possible a video uploaded directly to the service can be run by an algorithm that would detect for shaky and flickery footage and then fix it during the upload process.
With that level of integration, we wouldn't ever have to worry about grandma's aching bones doing the stutter dance when schlepped with the video camera ever again.

Docea updates its power modeling software

Docea Power is shipping a new version of its Aceplorer software, which is used to model and optimize electronic design power consumption, early in the design cycle, at the architectural level.
The new version Aceplorer 2.2 adds a library of generic blocks that can be used as a starting point for creating libraries of components including Intellectual Property (IP)-based power description models. Its graphical user interface (GUI), and project management capabilities have been improved so that it is easier to instantiate, aggregate and share libraries and designs among different teams.
Aceplorer 2.2 automatically outputs Unified Power Format (UPF) 2.0 or IEEE Std. 1801-2009 files to allow architects to communicate their specifications to the implementation or realization teams. This eliminates having to write the first UPF file in the flow by hand, a step that is prone to errors and tedious for system architects to perform. By automating this process, Aceplorer 2.2 helps reduce the risk of errors. An easy-to-understand UPF file editor allows for information sharing and reduces the risks of misunderstandings among different teams.
"We continue to be committed to improving the accuracy of high level, architectural solutions for analyzing the power consumption of electronics designs, at the SoC and platform level," remarked Ghislain Kaiser, CEO of Docea Power. "Our software addresses power optimization early in the design cycle where it makes the most impact
