AirWatch Announces Latest Mobile Device and Smartphone Management Software

AirWatch, a provider of enterprise-grade Mobile Device and Smartphone Management (MDM) software, announced the release of AirWatch (News - Alert) 5.13.

This newly launched AirWatch 5.13 accelerates and secures mobile device deployments through its enhanced Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) integration and certificate management framework. The company’s management framework is designed to make it easier to generate and manage certificates on mobile devices for authentication and encryption.
AirWatch generates the certificates for the device after authenticating a mobile device user. AirWatch solutions are expected to speed up the overall mobile device deployment process. With AirWatch solutions, businesses can rely on their existing PKI and Certificate Authority, or AirWatch can set up the necessary infrastructure for generating and managing certificates.
“An increasing number of companies recognize issuing service-based certificates strengthens device security, but when done manually, it's both inefficient and labor intensive,” said John Marshall, CEO of AirWatch, in a statement.
“AirWatch 5.13's robust PKI integration and certificate management framework streamlines and automates these processes, allowing IT to secure an entire fleet of mobile devices in an effective and consistent manner,” Marshall added.
The company's enhanced certificate framework issues the certificates for authentication to Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange or Lotus Notes, VPN servers, Wi-Fi networks and more. If high levels of device security are required, AirWatch can rotate and re-issue large volumes of service-based certificates.
AirWatch 5.13 integrates with Microsoft Certificate Services, as well as several other PKI infrastructures. The solution integrates with Microsoft Active Directory to store certificate information in a user's account.
It can also associate the certificate with the user's account as a logon credential, a must for single-factor certificate-based authentication with Exchange ActiveSync. This method of ActiveSync authentication can prevent account lockouts that occur due to expired passwords, company officials said.
Recently, AirWatch announced that Voxware (News - Alert) will embed AirWatch’s technology into their solution. With this, Voxware, a supplier of software for voice-driven warehousing operations, will be able to provide MDM functionality.

New Mobile App Brings Crowdsourcing to EV Charging

Xatori, Inc., a software company based in Palo Alto, California, has created an online community and mobile app for electric vehicle owners and enthusiasts who want to share their electric outlets with one another.
The PlugShare app aims to create a community-driven electric vehicle (EV) charging network that allows iPhone and iPod touch owners in the United States to share their outlets. PlugShare users can choose to share 240v J1772 plugs (compatible with the latest generation of EVs, such as the Nissan LEAF and Chevy Volt) or standard 120v outlets. PlugShare also includes an up-to-date listing of public charging stations.
In addition to sharing electricity, PlugShare users can browse a listing of public charging stations; view profiles of other PlugShare members; call or text other PlugShare members; and get directions to shared outlets or charging stations.
Users can freely browse the map of PlugShare members and charging stations, but must create a PlugShare account to view address and profile information. Users do not need a special outlet or an electric vehicle to sign up.
By crowd-sourcing the EV charging infrastructure problem, PlugShare hopes to reduce "range anxiety" or the possibility of running out of power; a common concern associated with EV ownership. PlugShare also offers a direct communication channel for EV owners and enthusiasts interested in accelerating EV adoption and ushering in the new era of oil-free transportation.
"Many people won't have EVs right away, but everyone has an electrical outlet," said Forrest North, CEO. "Sharing electricity from a standard outlet only costs about $0.15 an hour, a small price to lessen our dependence on oil."
North was previously founder and CEO at Mission Motors and an engineer at Tesla Motors. CTO Armen Petrosian was previously an engineer at Amprius and on the Stanford Solar Car team. Advisors include Max Levchin (co-founder of PayPal and Slide) and Marc Tarpenning (co-founder of Tesla Motors). Xatori is based in Palo Alto, California.

HubSpot Gets a $32 Million Investment

HubSpot, the 5-year-old marketing software company that targets small to midsize businesses, announced a new round of investments totaling $32 million.
The money is coming from a collection of heavy hitters: Google Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Salesforce.com. Those three companies are new to HubSpot, and they join previous VC investors like Matrix Partners and General Catalyst in the latest investing round. So far, HubSpot has raised $55 million.
HubSpot, which is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, provides marketing software it said is now used by more than 4,000 businesses.
"The fundamental way that people shop, learn, and buy has changed radically in the last few years. HubSpot helps transform the way businesses market from outbound marketing (cold calls, email blasts, and direct mail) to inbound marketing (Google, blogs, social media, mobile, etc.)" said Brian Halligan, co-founder and CEO of HubSpot.

Google Android cements smartphone lead over Apple and Windows

The latest figures for American smartphone usage reveal that the new Windows Phone 7 platform has not halted Microsoft’s decline in the category. Data from comScore MobiLens shows a 1.7 per cent fall in Microsoft's share, from 9.7 per cent to 8 per cent in the three months ending in January 2011.
Google’s Android operating system rose by 7.7 per cent and Apple’s iOS platform showed a 0.1 per cent increase. BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion showed a decline in line with recent trends, from 35.8 per cent to 30.4 per cent.
Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 software was launched at the end of October in Europe and Asia, and at the beginning of November in North America. The new figures are the first to include the period when it was on sale, and indicate that customers are continuing to leave Microsoft in favour of other operating systems, despite the new software. Microsoft’s deal with Nokia and with some US carriers may, however, stem that tide.
At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona executives who did not wish to be named reported that Microsoft was disappointed with sales and consumer impressions of WP7. The company announced some updates to the platform at the show.
Data from Nielsen, however, puts Microsoft on a 10 per cent share of the American market over the same period. It places Android on 29 per cent and both Apple and BlackBerry on 27 per cent.

Sportsbook Software: eCOGRA has new initiatives for customer satisfaction

EcograeCOGRA, the independent gaming auditor, has made an announcement regarding its brand new 9 point program to enhance online security and player satisfaction, and sportsbook software services have been very excited when they found out about this.
The news have recently come to light for casino customers, following the announcement of a very bold new initiative to make improvements in online consumer security, and sportsbook software services see this as very good news. eCOGRA, the independent player protection and standards organization, revealed the latest plans that it has for the introduction of measures that will be making improvements  on safety among customers at internet gaming venues.
The proposals have been set to make an impact on casinos that registered all across the European Union, and could end up transforming the gaming experience for players within the continent, especially in the United Kingdom.
eCOGRA (e-Commerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance), which is very well known among sportsbook software services,  is representing one of Europe’s most highly respected independent gaming auditors.
The brand, which has been formed about 7 years ago,  has been the one in charge of sanctioning some of the industry’s biggest names, and is regularly present at online poker and bingo rooms, as well as mobile casinos and sportsbooks. eCOGRA certification has now become synonymous with responsible gaming’s highest standards, and is associated with just under 70 leading online gaming operators, and over 25 leading software providers.
The latest updated gaming targets of eCOGRA have taken the form of a 9 point program. Having been assembled as a result of contributions coming from the European Committee for Standardisation (aka CEN), the objectives include fair gaming, customer satisfaction, accurate payouts of bonuses and winnings, and comprehensive data protection, in order to ensure player privacy.
All casinos that look for eCOGRA’s approval are required to show that they are meeting the targets that are specified. It seems to be very clear that such extraordinary initiatives will be received with open arms, as casino operators are looking to persuade new customers on the reliability, quality, and safety of their online facilities, and betting software services everywhere will be more than willing to welcome these initiatives.
