AirWatch, a provider of enterprise-grade Mobile Device and Smartphone Management (MDM) software, announced the release of AirWatch (News - Alert) 5.13.
This newly launched AirWatch 5.13 accelerates and secures mobile device deployments through its enhanced Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) integration and certificate management framework. The company’s management framework is designed to make it easier to generate and manage certificates on mobile devices for authentication and encryption.
AirWatch generates the certificates for the device after authenticating a mobile device user. AirWatch solutions are expected to speed up the overall mobile device deployment process. With AirWatch solutions, businesses can rely on their existing PKI and Certificate Authority, or AirWatch can set up the necessary infrastructure for generating and managing certificates.
“An increasing number of companies recognize issuing service-based certificates strengthens device security, but when done manually, it's both inefficient and labor intensive,” said John Marshall, CEO of AirWatch, in a statement.
“AirWatch 5.13's robust PKI integration and certificate management framework streamlines and automates these processes, allowing IT to secure an entire fleet of mobile devices in an effective and consistent manner,” Marshall added.

AirWatch 5.13 integrates with Microsoft Certificate Services, as well as several other PKI infrastructures. The solution integrates with Microsoft Active Directory to store certificate information in a user's account.
It can also associate the certificate with the user's account as a logon credential, a must for single-factor certificate-based authentication with Exchange ActiveSync. This method of ActiveSync authentication can prevent account lockouts that occur due to expired passwords, company officials said.
